Vitamin D: The New Powerhouse Cancer Fighter

Recent studies indicate that vitamin D has extraordinary cancer-fighting properties. Can this nutrient be a breakthrough in the fight against cancer?

Researchers at Creighton University in Omaha conducted a double-blind, randomized, placebo controlled trial, the most reliable form of clinical information obtained. Among 1,179 community-living, healthy, post-menopausal women, they reported last year in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition that over the course of four years, those that took calcium and 1,100 International Units of vitamin D-3 developed roughly 80% fewer cancers than those that just took calcium or a placebo. What an extraordinary endorsement for the benefits of vitamin D!

Vitamin D is quickly becoming the powerhouse nutrient and for good reason. Vitamin D has significant benefits and with the latest findings we are discovering that the current RDA for vitamin D might be dramatically low. Currently the RDA for vitamin D is 400 I.U. Probably over the next few years, as the information uncovered by these types of studies is finalized and the information gets processed by the FDA, you will see a dramatic increase in the RDA for vitamin D.

Vitamin D is not just beneficial in reducing the risk of cancer. Vitamin D has many significant responsibilities in the body. These include...

*Maintaining Your Calcium Balance
*Immune Boosting
*Plays a role in Insulin Secretion
*Regulates Blood Pressure
*Disease Prevention

Many of you may know that vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin as opposed to a water-soluble vitamin like vitamin C for instance. The danger with fat-soluble vitamins is that it is possible to overdose and develop vitamin-toxicity. Healthy people rarely get vitamin D toxicity. One should not be concerned about this unless they are taking extremely high amounts consistently, such as 7,000 - 10,000 I.U.s. It is also important to note that developing vitamin D toxicity to overexposure of sunlight is not a legitimate concern.

It is very difficult to get all the nutrients we need from the food we eat. Vitamin D is no exception and there are a wide range of vitamin D supplements in the marketplace. We strongly recommend getting your vitamin D in a non-synthetic vitamin D3 form and definitely take it with calcium in the proper ratios.

Vitamin D is tough to get from food especially for vegetarians. Here is a list of foods that are a natural source of vitamin D...

*Herring
*Catfish
*Salmon
*Mackerel
*Sardines
*Tuna
*Eel

...and the one natural source not found in water...

*Mushrooms

The more research being done on vitamin D, the more we are understanding its overall importance to our health.

Short Term Workers and the Risk of Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma

Comparing and contrasting short term workers with their long term colleagues provides some interesting data regarding risk of cancer and mesothelioma. One interesting study is called, “Mortality of workers employed in two asbestos cement manufacturing plants” by J. M. Hughes, H. Weill, and Y. Y. Hammad - Br J Ind Med 1987;44:161-174. Here is an excerpt: “Abstract - In a study of the mortality experience of 6931 employees of two New Orleans asbestos cement products manufacturing plants over 95% were traced. Chrysotile was the primary fibre used in both plants. Plant 1 also used small amounts of amosite and, later, crocidolite irregularly whereas plant 2 used crocidolite steadily in pipe production. Previously reported exposure concentration estimates were revised, based on additional air sampling data and re-evaluation of these data. Workers in the two plants had similar duration of employment (overall, a mean of 3.8 years) and estimated exposure concentration (a mean of 7.6 million particles per cubic foot (mppcf)).

Mortality was similar for these plants and comparable with Louisiana rates for all causes combined, nonmalignant causes, and primary cancers of specified sites other than lung. Short term workers from both plants showed raised and similar risk of lung cancer, but risk among longer term workers differed--for example, for workers employed over one year there was no excess in plant 1 (16 observed, 17.2 expected) but a significant excess in plant 2 (52 observed, 28.9 expected, p less than 0.001). After excluding short term workers, risk of lung cancer in plant 2 showed a significant trend with estimated cumulative asbestos exposure; using a conversion of 1.4 fibres/ml = 1 mppcf, the slope of the line was 0.0076. The slope for plant 1 was 0.0003. Among all workers (the 6931, plus 167 early employees) ten mesotheliomas had occurred up to 1984: two from plant 1, eight from plant 2. In plant 2 a case-control analysis found a relation between risk of mesothelioma and duration of employment (p less than 0.01) and proportion of time spent in the pipe area (p less than 0.01), thus adding to the evidence of a greater risk of mesothelioma from crocidolite than chrysotile asbestos. A review of the mortality findings of eight cohorts of asbestos cement workers is presented.”

Another interesting study is called, “Benign asbestos pleural effusion: 73 exudates in 60 patients” by Hillerdal G, and Ozesmi M. - Eur J Respir Dis. 1987 Aug;71(2):113-21. Here is an excerpt: “All patients seen in 1975 to 1984 with benign asbestos pleural effusion (BAPE) were studied. In all, 73 exudates occurred in 60 patients, 40 on the left side and 33 on the right. Relapses occurred on the same side in two patients; 11 had bilateral exudates, three of them concomitantly, in the other patients with a free interval of 1-15 years. The mean latency time from the first exposure to asbestos was 30 years, with a range of 1 to 58 years. The effusions lasted from 1 to 10 months, with a median of 3 months. The most common symptoms were pain, fever, cough, and/or dyspnoea; however, 46% of the episodes were symptomless. The total number of thoracocenteses was 66, with removal of 50 to 2000 ml (mean 460) each time. Fifty-three per cent of the pleural fluids were macroscopically haemorrhagic and 26% eosinophilic. Two findings contribute to a better understanding of the entity: first, even a comparatively slight occupational exposure can be sufficient; secondly, BAPE can occur many years after exposure to asbestos, and not only in the first one or two decades.”

If you found of either of these excerpts interesting, please read them in their entirety.

Bladder Cancer: Another Health Risk Posed by Cigarette Smoking

Cigarette smoking has been strongly linked to ailments such as heart disease, lung cancer, and other respiratory and circulatory diseases. However, there are several other cancers that can be developed because of cigarette smoking such as bladder cancer. Bladder cancer affects about 53,000 thousand individuals across the United States and smokers are twice more likely to get lung cancer than non-smokers.

Cigarette smoke contains more than 4,000 chemicals, 60 of which are highly carcinogenic. Smoking means exposing oneself to chemicals like hydrogen cyanide, butane, nicotine, carbolic acid, ammonia, and other harmful chemicals. As these substances are inhaled, they are absorbed into the lungs and eventually into the bloodstream. The blood then gets filtered by the kidneys and is incorporated in the urine. These carcinogens damage the urothelial cells that line the bladder walls and cause the development of tumors.

In some cases, bladder cancer often causes no symptoms until it has reached an advanced cure that may be difficult to cure. Noticeable symptoms of bladder cancer are non-specific, which means that these conditions may be linked to other health conditions other than cancer. Some of the symptoms of bladder cancer include the following:

Presence of blood in the urine;
Pain or burning sensation during urination without the occurrence of urinary tract infection (UTI); and
Urinating more often or feeling the strong urge to urinate without producing much urine.

Because of modern technology and advanced medicine, treatments for bladder cancer are now widely available. Treatment depends on the stage of the disease, the type of cancer, and the patient's overall health. Surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy are some of the common methods performed to treat this kind of cancer. However these treatments may produce a number of side effects that may affect one's sexual health. These treatments may cause certain signs and symptoms that may make sexual intimacy with one's partner more difficult. But this does not mean that a healthy sex life after cancer treatment cannot be achieved. Doctors should be consulted for possible remedies for these conditions.

Some sexual health problems that may be caused by cancer treatment may include the following:

Inability to achieve or maintain an erection (erectile dysfunction)
Difficulty climaxing
Orgasm without discharge of semen (dry orgasm)
Weaker, less satisfying orgasms
Loss of libido
Pain during sex

The development of different kinds of cancers that are linked to cigarette smoking have made the need to quit smoking more important. Despite the availability of many methods for cancer, people can drastically lessen the risks of developing bladder cancer by quitting cigarette smoking --- a goal that might be easier said than done for certain individuals. These individuals may use various quit smoking products like nicotine gums, patches, and others that are out in the market. These products are scientifically proven to aid individuals who want to quit smoking. These products work by temporarily supplying the body with nicotine through means other than cigarettes. This helps calm physical withdrawal symptoms of cigarette smoking. Using these products and coupling them with the right attitude a sure formula for the prevention of bladder cancer and improve one's overall health and well-being.

A Continuing Fight with Cancer

Today my wife and I spent the day at Emory’s Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta. This is the third time in the past six years that we have sat and waited for doctors to remove cancer from our daughter’s body. The first time in 2002 resulted in the amputation of her left foot. The last two times it’s been to remove cancer cells from her left lung. We have come to accept that we will be back in Crawford Long again, we just don’t know how soon and how often.

On one hand we feel lucky that she is getting such quality care that the cancer is being extracted before it has an opportunity to take a strong hold and take her life. I tell her that she’s lucky that she knows what’s going on in her body; most of us don’t. On the other hand we question how often and for how long can she endure major surgery and recovery.

I hear of people who say “stop with the treatment and let what is to happen to happen.” I can’t imagine they have much to live for making such a decision, but I’m not in their shoes. I ask myself, how much pain and suffering would I be willing to endure to keep living?

This ordeal has taught us a lot of lessons and opened our eyes to many inequities. The main lesson that we’ve learned over the past six years is to be proactive and to seek out and find the best of doctors and the best care. This doesn’t mean just going to any doctor, it means doing research and finding the best doctor available for the care that you or your family needs. With the internet this is a doable task. Neither best doctors nor best care would have been available if we had not had good health insurance. I read that 40% of Americans are without health insurance. I know in my heart if we had not had health insurance our daughter would be dead today, we wouldn’t know our grandson and we wouldn’t have had the past six years with them.

I don’t think that what my family has experienced is all that uncommon. The hospital is so crowded that our daughter will be spending the night in the ICU even though she is recovering well and should be moved onto the main floor, but there are no rooms available on the main floor. But only 60% of us have medical insurance, what are the other 40% doing or are they here at Crawford Long and not paying? Are they getting the preventive care that we are getting or are they merely fending off disasters?

Yet there are those among us that feel that to have a national insurance program would be wrong because it would result in a reduction in the quality of our medical care. Are we Ok with treating them for heart attaches, gun shoot wounds, and injuries; but not the progression of cancer or diabetes?

Is that to say that they are Ok with 40% of American families having to allow their daughters bodies be overrun with cancer? Can we be so selfish?

3 Types of Skin Cancers - Characteristics And Treatment

People that have skin that burns easily in the sun should be screened for skin cancer by a professional at least once a year. The screening will identify any abnormal changes in the skin and diagnose any problems. However, even if you are screened once a year you should also monitor the condition and changes in your skin from time to time. You can identify potential problems if you know a bit about the disease. This article will detail the three types of skin cancer including the signs and treatment for each type.

There are three types of skin cancer. The most common forms of the disease are the first two mentioned in the article. They are generally straightforward to treat because they do not spread or are localized to one area of the skin. However, it is still important to identify them early and get treatment of they could lead to more serious problems.

Basal Cell Carcinoma

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer. It will normally manifest as a waxy bump on the skin. It may also appear as a flesh or brown colored mark. It is typically found on the face, neck, chest and back but can occur anywhere on the body.

As most cases of basal cell carcinoma are benign and do not spread to other parts of the body treatment is relatively easy and effective. The bump or mark is simply cut out or frozen and removed. This can be done in 30 minutes at a doctor's surgery.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Squamous Cell Carcinoma is similar to basal cell carcinoma and has the same methods for treatment. However it is more liable to spread than the other type and therefore needs to be treated immediately it is diagnosed.

Squamous cell carcinomas are noticeable as a red nodule or bump that can appear on the face, neck, hands or arms. On rare occasions it can appear on the lips or ears. The bump is generally firm to the touch. In more advanced stages it may appear as a scaly, crusty lesion that will appear where the bump used to be. Again, provided it has not spread it can be cut out or frozen.

Melanoma

Melanoma is the least common of the 3 types of skin cancer however it is the most serious of the three, especially if it goes undiagnosed or untreated. Of the three it is most likely to spread to other parts of the body, including the lymph nodes and vital organs of the body. If this occurs (known as metastasizes) then it becomes difficult to treat and may involve chemotherapy and other aggressive treatments. Early detection is crucial for a melanoma but they are often very hard to identify. This is why it is important to get a screen once a year by a professional in the diagnose of skin cancer.

It is important to be aware of the three types of skin cancer as you can be alerted to any potential skin problems with this knowledge. However it is far better to prevent skin cancer from occurring than ever having to go through a procedure to remove skin cancers. Prevention means limiting your exposure to ultraviolet rays either by avoiding them or wearing some form of protection against them.

Two Studies Reveal Cancer Killing Effects of Essential Oil

Lemongrass as an herb has been used for centuries for its positive health effects. In Ayurvedic medicine, it has been used for relief of menstrual discomfort and nausea. The fresh grass is used in indigenous medicine systems around the world. Recently, the essential oil has been the subject of scientific studies regarding its effects on cancer cells. One of the features of cancer cells is the upset of natural cell death. Lemongrass appears to be effective as a form of chemotherapy, causing cell death to occur as it should: "Our results indicate that the oil has a promising anticancer activity and causes loss in tumor cell viability by activating the apoptotic process". These studies indicate that Lemongrass essential oil, with its low toxicity, has the potential of being an inexpensive 'alternative' treatment in the future.

Several essential oils have been investigated for their anti-cancer effects, most notably Frankincense, Lemongrass, and the common constituent "linalool", which adds a sweetness to many essential oil varieties. In one study, human cancer cell lines were examined for their susceptability to lemongrass essential oil as a chemotherapeutic agent. In-vivo analysis was also performed using tumor models in mice -- which further enhances the investigation by not only providing an in-vitro (test tube) analysis. A previous study examined the cause of cancer cell death, particularly of human leukemia HL-60 cells. The cause of death was determined to be the formation of reactive oxygen species (free radicals) and a loss of mitochondrial membrane stability -- leading to a loss of abiltiy of the cells to make their own energy and to defend themselves against oxidative radicals formed during natural metabolic processes.

Under examination, it was found that HL-60 Leukemia cancer cells treated with lemongrass essential oil lost their surface projections, indicating a loss of normal cell function. Surface projections in these cells normally implies the cells can interact with their environment, taking in nutrients and making adjustments per their environmental conditions. The cancer cell death was attributed to the main constituent of Lemongrass oil, isointermedeol, a sesquiterpene naturally present in the oil. The IC50 of the oil itself was 30 micro grams per ml, whereas for the isointermedeol, the IC50 dropped to 20 grams per ml. -- it is important to recognize, however, that this is not a huge difference in efficacy, and in many cases the complete oil is the better choice of treatment.

Lemongrass oil overall was effective against twelve types of cancer cells in-vitro, with a rage of effective doses from 4.2 to 79 micrograms per ml depending on the cell line, and two types -- solid and ascitic Ehrlich and Sarcoma-180 were also found affected by the the essential oil. Colon and Neuroblastoma cancers were the most susceptable to Lemongrass treatment. The absolute mechanism of induction of cell death is not yet known, though it is considered that essential oils disrupt un-natural cell processes in a manner of ways. In yet another study, Citral, a component of many lemon-scented oils, including Lemongrass, was found to induce apoptosis (natural cell death of cancer cells) in a liver cancer cell line at very low concentrations. This indicates it may not be the lemongrass per se, but can work with other essential oils such as Melissa, Lemon, and Lemon Verbena.

This important factor, notably that more than one chemical of the same essential oil can cause cancer cell death, is extremely interested, pointing out the potential for many essential oils to hold promise as anti-cancer therapies. Linalool, for example, has been shown in a recent study to cause cell death of liver cancer cells at very small concentrations. Linalool is found in a great many oils, most notably Lavender, and any oil which there is even a hint of sweetness. Does this mean other constituents do not have this effect, or do not work in concert with Linalool? Certainly not, and it seems most appropriate not to seperate out what science considers the 'active ingredient' -- there may certainly be more than one, and without extensive examination, it will be difficult to determine the synergy between all the constituents in these highly complex natural mixtures. It is crucial to recognize the importance of true, authentic essential oils, such as those from Ananda Aromatherapy and other manufacturer's dedicated to the craft, as the foundation of these natural healing compounds. It is the opinion of many natural medicine profesionals that there is no need, and it may in-fact be detrimental, to isolate any single natural compound for its healing effects. The animals of the planet have grown up with the plants, existing in a synergy where reducing plant medicine to single compounds goes against the grain of natural therapeutics.

The body of evidence of essential oils as cancer treatments continues to grow. One only need search pubmed.gov for 'essential oils cancer' to find an extensive list of abstracts to pique one's interest. As of today, this search produces 409 results. So why the great resistance to utilizing these fantastic medicines? It is a shame that even within the conventional medical community that many MD's are resistant to suggesting these 'alternative' therapies to their patients, even alongside 'conventional' treatments. The time for natural medicine has returned, and essential oils can be seen as a cornerstone for these natural therapeutics, given the large body of evidence supporting their use.

Lung Cancer in Non -Smokers

More and more often, I come across cases of nonsmokers who develop lung cancer. My attention is always drawn to news of this nature because my husband passed away at the age of 51 from brain and lung cancer. He never smoked a day in his life.

The complacency non-smokers have shared over the years is no longer a viable option. Smokers and non-smokers alike are vulnerable to a disease which is largely incurable. Among patients with lung cancer, only about 14% live five years after their diagnosis.

In the face of a disease that seems to have neither rhyme nor reason, what can we do to protect ourselves? First, assess your risk for lung cancer; then take measures to prevent the disease.

What are the risk factors for lung cancer?

Gender: Unfortunately, women seem to be more vulnerable to lung cancer. Research has shown that female smokers are more susceptible to the cancer-causing chemicals found in cigarettes. In another study, a gene linked to abnormal lung cancer cell growth was found to be more active in women than in men. It did not matter whether the women smoked or not.

A family history of lung cancer: Evidence suggests that there is a lung cancer gene which predisposes offspring to develop lung cancer. However, the evidence is far from conclusive as the situation is made difficult by the fact that offspring of smokers have been exposed to a smoking environment since childhood and would therefore have a greater risk for developing the disease.

Scarring from previous lung disease : Scarring in lungs caused by tuberculosis or other lung disease can be a risk factor for lung cancer.

Second-hand smoke: Exposure to second-hand smoke has been shown to be a definite risk factor. Your risk increases by 30 percent from daily exposure to second-hand smoke. This is probably the most significant risk factor for lung cancer in non-smokers.

Exposure to radon: Radon is an odorless gas than can seep out of the soil into buildings. Worse yet, the gas can seep from the soil into water near residential communities. Radon has been implicated as a potential cause of lung cancer.

Air pollution: Long-term occupational exposure to diesel exhaust fumes may increase lung cancer risk by 47%. Air pollution in general is a risk factor in the general population. Swedish researchers estimate that as many as 1 in 10 cases of lung cancer may be caused by air pollution in the Swedish capital city, Stockholm.

Past Cancer Treatment: Researchers in Sweden who looked at the medical records of 140,000 breast cancer patients found that there was an increase of lung cancer 5 to 20 years after breast cancer treatment. Suspicion is that radiotherapy in the chest area may have made the lungs more susceptible to the disease.

Estrogen Replacement Therapy: According to researchers at the University of Pittsburg, estrogen may fuel the growth of non small-cell lung cancer.

What preventative measures can we take?

Diet: An apple a day may keep lung cancer away. A Finnish study suggests that apples not only keep doctors away, but provide protection for the lungs as well. This study found that people who ate the most apples were 58 % less likely to develop lung cancer. Other studies suggest that lung cancer risk is lower among smokers and non smokers who ate at least 5 servings of vegetables and fruits daily.

Beta Carotene: A high intake of beta carotene compounds can lower your lung cancer risk; however, studies also show that the beta carotene is only effective when the compounds are ingested from whole foods such as peaches, melon, carrots, mangoes, dark leafy vegetables, squash etc. The opposite effect seems to take place with beta carotene supplements. A Finnish study reported 18% more lung cancer cases among heavy smokers who took beta carotene supplements. And a National Cancer Study on the effects of vitamin A and beta carotene was halted because smokers taking the supplements had 28% more lung cancer than those taking a placebo.

Selenium and Vitamin C: Taking selenium supplements on a long- term basis has been shown to decrease the incidence of lung cancer. In one study, people taking 55-200 mcg of the mineral daily had a 46% lower rate of lung cancer. As well, studies indicate that people who take less than 90 mg of vitamin C on a daily basis may have a 90% higher risk of lung cancer than those who take 140mg or more.

Avoid second-hand smoke and check your house for radon.

There are never guarantees in life, but it makes perfectly good sense to take some preventative measures as these can not only improve your overall quality of health and life but also prevent lung cancer.

Cancer Awareness is Pevention

We have been listening from time immemorials that prevention is better than cure and it is so true as well. Till the time the medical science can offer a permanent fix to this deadly disease, the only way of fighting cancer is – prevention. But this prevention required that one is aware of the symptoms and the warning signs of cancer.

There is always a very good hope if we can detect cancer in initial stage. But it becomes really very difficult to cure the disease in the late presentations. So we should create awareness about the cancer world wide at mass scale and this alone is the way that we can fight with cancer and reduce the number of cancer patients all across the world.

Late presentations are just because of lack of education, awareness and early diagnosis. If we are educated, aware and have facility of good healthcare where an early diagnosis can be done, we will be saved for sure. This awareness can be created in the society by telling the people about the early signs and symptoms and promoting the healthcare services.

This is considered the government’s responsibility to provide this awareness, through it’s health programms. To some extent this is true as well but this is a disease taking it’s toll from the society and this way we should consider this to be our social responsibility to get ourselves appropriate education regarding cancer and spread the same to one another in the society by using various media.

Today the access to right information is available to most of the people but due to lack of education, few know about this. Even the educated persons may be deprived of this info for that they may not be computer literate. This becomes the duty of every one who is educated, computer literate and have access to the information which can promote cancer awareness, to spread this knowledge in the society by any media.

The most important is the early detection, unfortunately most of the people reaching the hospitals too late and that makes this very difficult to treat the disease. We should promote early diagnosis so that one is able to recognize the warning signs of cancer, reaches hospital in time and saved from death.
These early warning signs are such as persistent indigestion, abnormal bleeding, hoarseness of the voice and things like that. If one is well informed about these, early diagnosis can always be seeked.

3 Top Tips for Preventing Small Cell Lung Cancer

SCLC is one of the less common types of lung cancer accounting for around 20% of all diagnoses. It is often referred to as oat cell carcinoma because the small cells of the lungs look similar to oats. SCLC develops when the small cells of the lung start to grow in a rapid and uncontrolled way leading to the formation of malignant (cancerous) tumours. Unfortunately the outlook for people who contract SCLC is bleak with the five year survival rate being less than 20%. However, there are a number of things you can do to reduce your chances of developing this disease. In this article I will be discussing three things you can do to prevent small cell lung cancer.

1) QUIT SMOKING:- Smoking has been scientifically proven to cause a number of cancers. However, it is most strongly linked with lung cancers. The reason for this is that cigarettes contain over 70 carcinogens (chemicals that are known to cause cancer). Every time you inhale the smoke from a cigarette these carcinogens go straight to your lungs greatly increasing the chance of cancerous growths in the small cells of your lungs. Therefore, by quitting smoking you can significantly lower your chances of developing SCLC.

2) AVOID OTHER HARMFUL SUBSTANCES:- Although smoking is by far the most significant risk factor for SCLC there are a number of other chemicals that have been linked with this condition. Uranium, radon (which is created by the breakdown of uranium) and asbestos are all thought to increase your likelihood of contracting SCLC. When combined with smoking these substances are thought to be an even more significant SCLC risk. Therefore, by avoiding these chemicals you can help prevent small cell lung cancer.

3) EAT MORE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES:- Although the research is not conclusive a number of studies have suggested that fruits and vegetables can help prevent SCLC. This is thought to be because they are rich in anti-oxidants, flavenoids and vital vitamins. All these ingredients work together to prevent cellular damage which reduces the chances of the cells becoming cancerous. Therefore, by increasing your consumption of fruit and vegetables you could lower your chances of developing SCLC.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the article the survival rate for this type of cancer is low. However, you can have a large influence over how likely you are to contract SCLC. By quitting smoking and avoiding smoky environments you can drastically reduce your risk but by doing the other things listed in this article too you can prevent small cell lung cancer even further. SCLC can be prevented and I hope this article has shown you how.

Whilst every intention has been made to make this article accurate and informative, it is intended for general information only. Small cell lung cancer is a very serious, life threatening condition and you should discuss any concerns, treatments or lifestyle changes fully with your doctor.

The Buildup of Mesothelioma Cancer

Mesothelioma is a serious cancerous disease with very low survival rates despite the various new treatment options that have helped in increasing the longevity of patients. Statistics indicate that the average survival period after diagnosis is one year with a slight increase to two years with aggressive treatment. It has been found that in more than 95% of cases, mesothelioma occurs due to asbestos exposure.
Asbestos is a good heat resistant material that is used by various industries to make lagging for pipes and walls. Prior to the red flags raised by various medical groups, many individuals were unaware of the dangers of asbestos exposure. Studies show that the main effects occur about 20 to 40 years after first exposed. Owing to this reason, this disease has been labeled ‘old person disease’ because it occurs when individuals are in their latter part of their lives.
One of the most common types of mesothelioma is the epithelioid mesothelioma. This type has a higher prognosis for cure where patients can access better treatment and in turn improve their life expectancy. Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that is caused in the mesothelium, the epithelium adjoining certain organs. Epithelium is a tissue found within the body that separates different regions. For example, the epithelial cells found in the skin separate the outside of the body from its inside.

Causes and Symptoms of Mesothelioma

The most common cause of epithelioid mesothelioma is due to exposure to very fine airborne asbestos particles. In this cancerous disease, the membrane lining of chest cavity, lungs, heart abdominal abdominal cavity becomes damaged and results in the formation of cancerous cells. 50-70% of individuals suffering from mesothelioma exhibit syntoms of epithelioid mesothelioma thus making it the most common type. The survival period for epithelioid mesothelioma is about eight and a half months depending of the patient’s physical condition.
Epithelioid mesothelioma is identified based on the unique and organized cell structure. These cells have a tubular pattern with a specific cell nucleus. This easily leads to wrong diagnosis as the cells in other forms of cancer look similar to the epithelioid cells.
Epithelioid Mesothelioma symptoms start presenting themselves 40 to 50 years after being exposed to asbestos. Its symptoms are similar to that of common bout of asthma, pneumonia or bronchitis. These symptoms include chest pain and breathlessness. Apart from these symptoms, patients also experience coughing, weakness, tiredness along with inability to absorb nutrition resulting in significant weight loss. In addition, another common epithelioid mesothelioma symptom is the collection of fluid inside the pleural space and is known as pleural effusion. The breathlessness, pain and tiredness is develops when the tumor restricts the movement of the lungs during inhalation.
The symptoms of mesothelioma also depend on the location, size and nature of the tumor. In cases where the tumor is benign, it usually does not spread. However, when the tumor is malignant, the symptoms are very severe and spread rapidly. They also exert pressure on surrounding soft tissues.

$600,000 Settlement After Doctor Failed to Inform Patient Tests Revealed Possibility Of Prostate Cancer

Many men have little understanding of prostate cancer, their own chances for the cancer, and how to determine if they have prostate cancer. Most male patients do not even know what it means to test for prostate cancer or that screening needs to be conducted prior to when they manifest symptoms. Yet, far too often, physicians detect the cancer only after it is past the early stages because of a lack of screening.

Delayed diagnosis of prostate cancer examples are all too common. This article will look at the following pattern: the doctor (1) orders a PSA blood test, (2) notices abnormally elevated levels of PSA and but (3) neither tells him of abnormal results (and what they mean) nor orders diagnostic tests, for example a biopsy, to rule out prostate cancer. The lawsuit below illustrates this situation.

A doctor, an internist, found that his male patient had a PSA of 8. (anything above a 4.0 is ordinarily considered high). The doctor said nothing to the patient. The physician did not refer the patient to a urologist. The physician did not order a biopsy. Two years later the doctor repeated the PSA test. This time it had gone up to 13.6. Once again, the doctor did not inform the patient. Again, the doctor did not refer the patient to a urologist. And again, the physician did not order a biopsy. Two years later the doctor repeated the PSA test. It was not until three years after first learning of the patient’s elevated PSA level that the doctor at last advised him that he most likely had cancer. Additional testing uncovered that at this point he had advanced prostate cancer. A prostatectomy was no longer an option. Treating doctors instead advised radiation therapy and hormone therapy. Neither of these would eliminate the cancer but they might obstruct the cancer’s progress and additional spread. The law firm that handled this matter reported that they took the lawsuit to mediation where they were able to obtain a settlement of $600,000.

However not following up after observing abnormal test results results in a situation in which those patients who do have prostate cancer may not discover they have it until it has spread outside the prostate, restricting the patient’s choices for treatment, and considerably decreasing the likelihood that the patient will be able to survive the cancer.

As the above claim illustrates doctors sometimes comply with the guidelines by performing screening for prostate cancer but when the test results are abnormal they do not do anything about it.

Cancer and Breast Biospy: How to make sense of your Breast Biospy

In fact, only about four percent of mammogram test results conclude with a direct outcome of breast cancer. Primarily, a mammogram is employed by a doctor to determine that abnormal growths have been forming inside the body of the patient, though it is unknown if they are cancerous or benign. The results of the lab testing will diagnose cancer and help determine what type of breast cancer is present.

A doctor will find biospy results useful if an abnormality was discovered during a self breast exam or a mammogram. Needing a breast biospy does not mean that cancer has been diagnosed, a biospy simply provides an accurate evaluation to define what the irregular tissue is. Fact is, 80% of breast biopsies show that cancer is not present in the patient. After a breast biospy, cancer may be diagnosed and the cancer treatment process can start or continued testing may be administered to determine without a doubt that the abnormal tissue is indeed cancer.

This process is usually considered a minimally invasive operation, so don’t have to put much effort into preparing for the procedure. You will want to make sure your doctor knows about all medical conditions and a comprehensive list pills, prescription and over the counter medications, that you have been taking recently. Wear enjoyable clothing and make sure you have someone else drive you home. You will want to go home and rest after the procedure, it may not be a wise idea to return to work, even if you feel fine right afterwards.

The possible side effects of a breast biospy can include bruising, swelling, infection at biospy site or modified appearance of the breasts dependent on the size of the sample taken. If you experience severe bruising and swelling, infection at the site of the biospy or an unexpected change in breast shape, it is important to seek medical attention. A nurse may required to drain fluid build- up from the infected biospy site If you do have an infection the sooner it is treated, the better.

There are many ways to perform a breast biospy. X-Ray, ultrasound, MRI guided and open surgery methods are utilized to isolate the questionable tissue Each of these four terms gives you an idea of how the detection will work. The MRI guided and ultrasound detection types have minimal side effects, though the ultrasound method is more economical and is used when your doctor already has a good sense of where the abnormal tissue is located. X-rays can find abnormalities without any incisions but it does not give the accuracy of an ultrasound or MRI and emits radiation. Open surgery is usually only used when cancer is highly assumed; often the cancerous tissue can then be extracted all in one procedure.

Once the suspicious tissue has been located using one of the four methods, a needle is used to extract a sample. There are different types of needles. A fine aspiration biospy involves cells being taken just as if you were simply having blood drawn. A core needle is a hollow needle that a sample is extracted through; this is used when a larger sample is needed. Sometimes simple suction is used and sometimes a small vacuum device is used.

Though a breast biospy lab result may indicate that cancer is not the cause of the abnormal growth, it is important to have the area where irregular growth was located monitored. Have mammograms and conduct self breast exams on a regular basis. It is possible that you are in the very early stages of cancer where diagnosis tests are not yet effective since the cancer is so small. The majority of healthcare experts recommend getting both a MRI and a mammogram once is year for those who have had irregular growths in the past. The earlier you detect any new suspicious tissue, the better your chances are for recovering if cancer is discovered.

Can Green Tea Prevent Lung Cancer?

Lung cancer is the leading cause of death among men and women today. It is a disease that afflicts the elderly though adults are also prone to developing it. Over the years, the number of people suffering from lung cancer has increased which can be attributed to the changing lifestyle of the populace.

The most common cause of the development of lung cancer is directly related to cigarette smoking. Studies show that the risk of developing lung cancer increases with the number of cigarettes smoked over time. Pipe and cigar smoking also causes lung cancer but the risk is not the same as with cigarette smoking.

Cigarettes are primarily to be blamed for lung cancer because tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 chemical compounds with a majority of these chemicals known to be cancer-causing. The two primary cancer-causing chemicals found in tobacco smoke are called nitrosamine and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Once a person quits smoking however, the risk of developing lung cancer decreases.

Non-smokers can also develop lung cancer if they are exposed to second-hand smoke from smokers. About 3,000 deaths every year are caused by passive smoking. Another cause of lung cancer is the susceptibility of one to developing it. Genetics play an important factor to determine if one is at risk of cancer.

The presence of lung diseases and having a prior history of lung cancer are other reasons why an individual will have a slightly increased risk of developing the cancer. Aside from this, environmental factors such as air pollution are major contributors of lung cancer.

Since the disease is so prevalent nowadays, various treatment methods have been developed to combat it. These treatments include surgery and radiation therapy. But there is a recent development that involving a natural way of treating lung cancer and that is through the consumption of green tea.

A laboratory experiment has been done that tested green tea extracts to human lung cancer cells in a controlled and artificial environment. The cancer cells were placed in test tubes and were exposed to decaffeinated green tea extract. The cells were marinated in the extract for a maximum of three days. The result of this experiment shows that the green tea extract has altered a certain protein in the cancer cells making it stick together and move less. Scientists working on the experiment were not able to tell exactly what in the green tea extract worked to achieve the mentioned result.

And while the study is still not conclusive as to the consumption of green tea to be an effective treatment against lung cancer, it serves as the first step of developing drugs which will simulate the effects of exposing green tea extracts to the cancer cells. Through this breakthrough experiment, there is still hope for a lung cancer cure.

Nevertheless, one will not lose anything in believing that a certain natural remedy works for him. Besides, green tea is one herb that is very rich in antioxidants vital to the well-being of a person and known to combat other diseases as well.

Mesothelioma – A Type of Cancer Affecting the Internal Organs

Cancer is the name given to a sizeable group of diseases, all of which have one thing in common, that is cells that are, growing at an uncontrollable rate. There are several major types of cancers. One of the most common and known types of cancer is mesothelioma. This type of cancer is, known for affecting internal organs. Mesothelioma is, also referred to as malignant mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a kind of cancer that develops cancerous cells in the mesothelium. The tissue that outlines the lungs, stomach, heart and other organs is, called mesothelium. Mesothelioma is, basically a cancer of that tissue. It is an uncommon but life -threatening type of cancer. It usually originates in the lungs, but can also start in the abdomen or other internal organs. Most people who develop mesothelioma have occupations, where they have inhaled asbestos particles. It can take a long time about 30 to 50 years of exposure to between asbestos before getting the disease.

Mesothelioma first and foremost attacks the outer lining of the lungs called pleura, the internal chest wall, the lining of the abdominal cavity, the heart, the sac that covers the heart, and tunica vaginails. This cancer builds up more in those people who are exposed to asbestos. Not only the work related exposure to asbestos but also cleansing the clothes of a family member who was exposed to asbestos can put a person at danger for developing mesothelioma. Even though smoking is not a prime cause of mesothelioma, it can increase the severity of the disease.

The symptoms of mesothelioma may remain unknown even for 50 years. There are basically two types of mesothelioma. The pleural mesothelioma which damages the lung region whereas the peritoneal mesothelioma attacks the abdominal region.

Dyspnea commonly known as shortness of breath, cough, and pain in the chest due to an accumulation of fluid in the pleural space are often signs of pleural mesothelioma. Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma consist of weight loss, fatigue, weakness, significant loss in appetite, abdominal swelling and pain due to peritoneal fluid excess, obstruction in bowel movements, blood clotting abnormalities, anemia, and fever.

Diagnosing mesothelioma is often a difficult task, because the symptoms are similar to those of a number of other illnesses. Considering the patient’s medical history, tests can be conducted. These tests include chest x-ray, lung function tests, biopsy and laparoscopy. The doctors can decide on the way of treatment depending on the seriousness of the cancer spread.

The usual treatment for mesothelioma includes traditional therapies in combination with radiation and chemotherapy. While surgery itself hs not led to very good results, disappointing, pleurectomy/decortications is a recommended treatment, in which the lining of the chest is removed.

All mesotheliomas are now thought to be malignant or cancerous. They start as a normal tumor and spread rapidly to include most of the surrounding tissues and organs. Initially, fibrous cists and other non-cancerous growths that appeared in the serous membranes were considered to be mesotheliomas and were given the name "benign fibrous mesothelioma" and "multicystic mesothelioma."

Ovarian Cancer Treatment

Ovarian cancer, a condition characterized by an overgrowth of malignant cells in one or both of the ovaries, is one of the deadliest and under-recognized cancers affecting women. Every year, there are more than 25,000 women that suffer from this deadly disease. Half of them are most likely to die within a period of five years.

Early Detection: Improves Ovarian Cancer Treatment

The sad thing about ovarian cancer is that during the early stage, there are usually no signs and symptoms that tell you about this disorder. Symptoms start to show up when the cancer is already widespread, making ovarian cancer treatment too difficult.

However, there are women who are lucky enough to detect the symptoms early on; hence, diagnosis is hastened up and ovarian cancer treatment is given immediately. Tests such as pelvic and rectal screening, ultrasound, x-ray and laparoscopy may help a doctor detect tumors in the ovaries.

At present, almost 75 percent of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer are not treated immediately due to late detection of the cancer. Experts say that when detection of the cancer is made early and when ovarian cancer treatment is given immediately, women diagnosed with the disease have 90% survival rate since the cancer can be easily treated in its early stage.

Diagnosis and Ovarian Cancer Treatment

When symptoms finally show up and the doctor suspects that a patient may have ovarian cancer, laparoscopy is conducted to confirm diagnosis. It is a direct visual examination of the abdominal cavity, the ovaries, the exterior of the fallopian tubes and the uterus using an instrument that is inserted just underneath the navel.

Upon confirmation of ovarian cancer, the doctor explores the extent of the cancer and submits the patient for surgery. The surgeon removes the growth or much of the malignant tissue. In most cases, the whole ovary or both of the ovaries and the fallopian tubes are removed as they the malignant cancer cells have already affected these areas. This kind of surgery is called salpingooophorectomy. If the malignant cells affect the uterus, hysterectomy is conducted (surgical removal of the uterus).

Surgery is usually ensued by radiotherapy, which is the use of high energy radiation to destroy malignant cancer cells in the body and shrink remaining tumors, which may later on become malignant. This procedure may be done using an external machine or a radioactive material put inside the body near the malignant cells.

The patient also undergoes chemotherapy, whereby the patient is given anti-cancer drugs to help hasten up ovarian cancer treatment. Drugs may be administered orally (through the mouth), intravenously (through the veins) or through the muscles (by means of injection of a needle.

Most anticancer drugs given to the patient have chemical compounds that are toxic to the malignant cells; thus, growth of the cancer cells is reduced or stopped. These anticancer drugs are called cytotoxic drugs. Other anticancer drugs used are synthetic forms of sex hormones such as androgen drugs and progesterone drugs.

In most instances, different kinds of anticancer drugs are prescribed in combination in order to speed up ovarian cancer treatment. However, not all ovarian cancer patients are given with the same anticancer drugs. The drugs given to a patient depends on the extent or stage of development of the ovarian cancer and her general health condition.

Mesothelioma New Cures on the Horizon for Asbestos Causing Cancer

Mesothelioma and Asbestosis exist without a cure. Singular methods of chemotherapy and radiation have gone through medical scrutiny only to be declared potentially ineffective. The secret to extending the longevity of life in mesothelioma patients, and reducing the searing pains of cancer and asbestosis, may be found in the magical mix of the next array of clinical trials and experiments involving combination drugs.

Mesothelioma is a disease with little hope. Scientific studies have shown that chemotherapy, radiation or surgery alone often have little value over choosing no treatment. A rare disease appearing late in life, experiments and trials for this cancer haven’t undergone the funding and urgency of the well-known cancers of the masses - yet research for treatment does exist. Pharmacies, hospitals, health professionals and scientists that are dedicated to curing mesothelioma and reducing its painful side effects continue to conduct scientific studies on treatment efficacy for mesothelioma and asbestosis, and strive to develop new treatment options that can improve the quality of life for asbestos diseased patients.

Killing a tumor isn’t easy, and mesothelioma does not regress like other cancers, even after lung surgery. Just as a mix of the right individual talents can produce a powerful team, so can a mix of the right medications and treatment produce a powerful solution. Elementary science best demonstrates this with baking soda and vinegar. Each product has their unique properties that serve product-specific purposes, but when mixed together they can produce a volcanic effect. Finding the synergistic effect from combination drugs and therapies that can debilitate or conquer asbestos related diseases is the goal of mesothelioma and asbestosis clinical trials.

A 2007 medical study added on three months to the lives of mesothelioma patients who participated in clinical trials that used the vitamin supplements of B12 and folic acid along with Emetrexed and Cisplatin, when compared to mesothelioma patients that received Cisplatin without any supplements. Three months may not seem long to a person embraced in the rush of life, but it is a gift of life to the cancer sufferer facing imminent death.

Doxorubicin, a cancer drug for asbestos disease that’s been around for a while, is now being combined with Onconase. Doxorubicin damages the cancer cells, but the cancer cells can heal. Onconase is a drug that goes in and blocks the healing process. A similar clinical study is being done with Pemetrexed disodium, a drug classically prescribed for mesothelioma, combined with Gemcitabine or Carboplantin to determine the better combination. This would compare the results of two powerful drugs that block cancer cell growth versus a combination of one of those drugs with a drug that damages cancer cells.

Mesothelioma and its close relative Asbestosis are expected to reach higher diagnosis rates in the future. Asbestos use has been regulated in many countries, but its wide-spread use still remains. Hundreds of clinical trials for these asbestos diseases exist that will provide help, and maybe even a cure, for the asbestos-induced sufferers of the future. There is a light at the end of the long dark tunnel of mesothelioma. With continued medical research and clinical trials, the light will become brighter and brighter - until hopefully, mesothelioma will be left behind to become a part of the distant past.

Essiac Herbal Tea: Alternative Cancer Treatment

Essiac herbal tea for cancer was named after a Canadian nurse by the name of Rene Caisse, Essiac being her last name written backwards. She was credited for refining the original formula which contained eight herbs into a tea containing the four essential ingredients. The following is a brief account of them.

Essiac Tea Formula: Herbs

*Burdock root (Arctium lappa)

In the past, this plant was used in folk medicine. It contains trace minerals such as potassium, phosphorous, chromium, iron, magnesium, zinc, silicon, sodium and cobalt. It also has vitamin E and B complex. According to various clinical trails, the plant has been found to have anti-tumor properties. Burdock root can be an alternative blood purifier. It is a diuretic and diaphoretic.

*Sheep Sorrel (Rumex acetosella)

Sheep sorrel is a known ingredient in folk remedies in Asia and Europe for cancer. The plant is a diuretic and contains anti-tumor properties like the Burdock root. It is high in vitamins E, K, D, C B complex and A. Trace minerals such as iron, silicon, sulphur, manganese, copper, magnesium, calcium, can be found in this herb.

*Slippery Elm (Ulmus Fulva)

According to many herbalists the bark of the slipper elm can make a drink full of nutrients that heal and soothe various ailments. The bark has been reported to have an ability to remove toxins from the body, and many claim it has antibiotic and antimicrobial properties as well.

* Turkey Rhubarb (Rheum Palmatum)

Cassie chose this variety of rhubarb over the common variety because it is less bitter and more effective. The root contains a number of vitamins such as B complex, C, A and P. It has a lot of the trace minerals needed by the body such as sodium, copper, iodine, iron, chlorine, calcium, manganese, potassium, magnesium, sulphur, phosphorus and zinc.

The more waste matter removed from the body, the more toxins that may cause tumor cells are eliminated. The rhubarb is a laxative that gently stimulates the organs to purge the body of this matter.

Find Out How to Avoid Colon Cancer With These Tips

An approximate of over 60,000 people this year will die from colon cancer. Colon cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the United States, with an estimate of 112,340 new cases and 52,180 deaths this year. If you can’t have a bowel movement more than 3 times a week, you might be having a symptom ofcolon cancer. Painful stomach cramps, unexplained weight loss, bloating, nausea and vomiting can suggest you might be developing colon cancer.

The fact is that, you can decrease your likelihood of getting colon cancer by about 80% by making changes to your lifestyle. Here are 3 easy lifestyle changes you can make today - that’ll help you blockcolon cancer.

1) Change your diet.

This change won’t will seem easy at first, but as time goes by, you'll love your newly improved life. Take in more fibers by eating more vegetables, start reducing cholesterol by drinking green tea (you’ll see other amazing benefits just by drinking green tea) and cut down your sugar intake.

The vegetable part is the most important. What vegetables do you like the most? Eat at least 3 full servings of vegetables a day. You can supplement this by drinking those vegetable mix drinks that have at least a full serving of vegetables per can. You might not be able to take the taste of these drinks during your first tries, but eventually you’ll start to love them.

2) Avoid smoking.

If you’re a smoker, you’re much more likely to get colon cancer, and other kind of diseases. Inhaling smoke can increase the growth rate of polyps/tumor (abnormal growth of tissue), especially the dangerous kind that plays a prime role in creatingcolon cancer. There have been many clinical trials that link smoking and colon cancer.

If you don’t smoke, avoid many “second-hand smoking” areas as possible. These are usually indoor areas where there isn’t any kind of ventilation, and you're virtually smoking as well.

3) Take a colon cleanser.

This is by far the fastest and best way to clean your colon, and increase bowel movements. The colon cleansers come in pill form, & they're more effective than the supplements you might have seen at your local drug store.

These supplements are made for killing parasites (you’ve got hundreds of them in your body), cleaning the intestinal system, and preventingcolon cancer so effectively that you won't have to worry about colon cleansing after you’re done with the cycle.

Superfoods that Fight Cancer

Heart disease is number one killer among both men and women in the United States. And though we all realize that eating nutrient-dense healthy foods help reduce the risk, we may not know which foods are the best choices to battle this deadly disease head on.
The key is stepping up fiber and choosing unsaturated fats. Eating unsaturated fats, like omega-3 fatty acids and olive oil, can help to reduce triglycerides. And a diet rich in soluble fiber, which is often found in legumes and some fruits and vegetables, helps to decrease LDL cholesterol levels.

Sardines are an awesome source of omega-3 fatty acids, along with calcium and niacin. You can prepare fresh ones on the grill, or canned sardines work great in salads or sandwiches. Mackerel is another excellent source of omega-3s, and is full of selenium, which is an antioxidant mineral which may help protect the body from heart disease and cancer. A great way to get omega-3s on the go is by grabbing a handful of walnuts for an afternoon snack. Add some to your green salad, or give chicken salad a nutrition boost by adding ground walnuts.

Therefore, with every soft drink, candy, cake and goodie you indulge in, you are robbing your skeleton of its bone density. The calcium and magnesium the body harvests in an attempt to counteract this acidic environment gets passed through your kidneys, where it can also contribute to kidney stones and exits your body through your urine. To prevent losing your bone mass to dietary causes, simply avoid consuming any white flour, processed sugars, added sugars, soft drinks, sweets, candies, breads, or any other ingredients that are made with refined carbohydrates.

In addition, certain superfoods, like broccoli, cabbage, celery and other dark green leafy vegetables help keep the pH balance in a healthy equilibrium. You need to get plenty of calcium and magnesium from healthy sources such as organic, plant-based vitamins. You also need to supplement your diet with various sea vegetables, which are naturally alkaline. Those include seaweed, kelp, and many others. Sprouts are also an awesome superfood choice.

The Perils of Thyroid Cancer

A lump or a node that appears on any part of the human body should not be taken for granted. It is a known fact that these could be a cause for concern and for all intents and purposes, cancerous in a sense. Without a doubt, they point to either an infection or an inflammatory reaction for some part of the human body, and leaving them unattended to may become critical at some point, going to the extent of even aggravating something that is needed to be checked for the cause of such.

Most people today enumerate the various known diseases they are exposed to. Ranging from the usual heart and neurological problems that have been reported one after the other, it is no secret as well, that most found ailments and issues have cropped up at one point or another. Thyroid is not a new disease for most people, and is more common in women. Not given much weight compared to that of the usually concerning health conditions, if thyroid diseases are not dealt with accordingly, this may lead to one of the more feared illnesses that of which is cancer. People are aware of how cancer can slowly punish and eventually kill a person, and this approach should be done in the same way that thyroids are treated. Most people would have a high tolerance for pain, but this is only temporary in nature, and if not neither addressed nor given the proper medical attention may lead to a more complicated health issue that may not reach the point of being treatable. This is belief is common to most diseases, and there is no exception to the fact that leaving such matters unresolved will go away by itself. Pain may go away for a certain period, but the fact remains that traces of such diseases will remain in the blood stream and may strike at any given time due to improper containment of the said disease.

It is easy to spot when something is wrong. Aside from feeling weird, or having issues that are abnormal in the sense that they do not adhere to the normal ways of going on with life, such symptoms should readily be consulted with the doctor while they are in the early stages. Health just like food should not be left hanging. It is important to move on, earn a living to be able to sustain the various needs a person requires to be able to exist. But such things will become for naught, if the health of such an individual is taken for granted, and once conditions are set along the line for him to be able to perform these said tasks.

Thyroid illnesses have been time and again mistaken for other disease and vice versa. Immediate assessments will not show thyroid as the significant sign for complaints made by patients, and only in tests will there be a telling factor for doctors to determine the possibility of such an illness that may be present. The symptoms shown are no doubt misleading, and will surely be tagged to other known diseases or illnesses. Without question, consistency shall be a conflict to be considered in such cases and medical attention to an extent should be thoroughly re evaluated for the sake of the patient.
